Preparing for Your Newborn Session

• Newborn photos are best in the first two weeks of life, if you want super sleepy photos.  Some stay sleepy, small newborns longer than others.
• Interact with and try to keep baby awake as much as possible before your session to ensure he/she is good and sleepy for the session. We want baby to be sleepy as this makes it easier to pose and work with him/her.
• Please make sure your little one has a full belly for the session. You are welcome to feed baby during the session if they are fussy or hungry.
• Please have a pacifier handy.  Even if they don't take it for you, it can help me calm them!
• Babies are sleepier at warmer temperatures, so you may want to bump the heat up in your home a bit for the session (or put a space heater in the room).  I bring a warming pad, but ambient heat can help.
  
• Dress baby in loose fitting clothes to avoid any lines on skin – a simple button-up sleeper is best.  Also attach their diaper loosely to avoid lines on their bum if you want some nakie photos!
• Avoid mittens or socks, as they leave more lines!
  
• Infants are adorable in little or no clothing.  I recommend having a couple of favorite outfits that fit baby best, then going with wraps, onesies, diaper/diaper covers, or nakie.
• Hats, blankets, things that match baby's nursery, important gifts, family heirlooms - all great things to have handy for your shoot! 
  
• I tend to do family portraits on black, white, wood, and cream for newborns, but you're welcome to request something different.  Wearing a solid allows us to focus on the baby & your relationship with him/her, and not any distracting clothing.  Long sleeves make you look slimmer, but short sleeves/tanks/tube tops can be very intimate for portraits.
